Procedure: Create CMS Roles
¶
This page explains how to create a new CMS Role.
Preamble
¶
Roles are used to secure the website. Roles can easily be used to restrict a CMS User to update a single Web Part, Web Page or pages within a folder.
Roles are used to:
control edit access to the site
control catalog access to the site
control edit access to Web Part, Web Page, or web pages within a folder
control catalog access to web pages within a folder
Roles that access the site MUST be added to the webparts.config file at the root of the website directory.
Default Roles included in the webparts.config file include: Editor and WebMaster. This means that only users with these Roles are allowed to edit the site.
The corManager.config file is used to control what Roles have edit and/or catalog access to web pages within a folder.
The
CMS Role Permissions Web Part
is used to control what Roles have edit/catalog access to a web page.
Each Web Part has properties that define what Roles can edit or view the Web Part.
